About Dr Lushen Pillay
Dr Lushen Pillay is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Physician who provides comprehensive care for the full range of general gastrointestinal conditions. He assesses and treats problems affecting the oesophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver and pancreas and offers gastroscopy and colonoscopy when required.
Alongside his broad general gastroenterology practice, Dr Pillay has particular expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He is the IBD Lead at Colchester Hospital and has extensive experience managing complex IBD. He also established and leads the only commercial IBD clinical trials service in Essex.
Dr Pillay completed his specialist training in gastroenterology and general internal medicine in the East of England, including advanced IBD training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, where he subsequently worked as an acting consultant. He is accredited in gastroscopy and colonoscopy and has extensive diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy experience.
His approach is thorough, evidence-based and centred on the individual. He takes time to listen, explain findings clearly and develop a practical investigation and treatment plan with each patient.

Dr Pillay see's private patients at Oaks Hospital in Colchester. This modern hospital has a state of the art endoscopy suite where all endoscopies are performed.
